Crowdsourcing HIV Test Promotion Using Short Videos (Greater China)

ESH Global launched a participatory open contest in 2013 aimed at promoting HIV testing through community-based organizations (CBOs) creating their own one-minute videos. CBOs were incentivized based on a plan to promote the best videos through local, regional, and international platforms. Submissions were publicly screened in December 2013 and a panel of judges from academic, public health, media, and medicine backgrounds evaluated the entries and selected three finalists. The finalist videos were from Beijing Danlan GongyiShanghai Xinsheng, and Chengdu Tongle. These videos were presented at a WHO-WPRO regional conference in Manila and highlighted on the WHO China website here. Our randomized controlled trial showed that crowdsourcing was effective and cost saving compared to a health marketing approach (Tang et al. )
